Mr. W. M. Dhanapala is a senior lecturer in Sociology, Anthropology and Criminology at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka, He secured his B.A. in Sociology and Anthropology and M. Phil in Criminology from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and M.A from the Hitotsubashi University in Japan. He is a reader of Ph.D. in the same Hitotsubashi University in Japan. He has been working as a university teacher for over 25 years and also as a consultant in development projects for twenty years. He has written and published more than 35 books and articles in both Sinhalese and English. He has studied foreign languages such as Japanese, Russian and English in addition to oriental languages. In the fields of sociology and criminology he has conducted many research studies. He has a special interest in Buddhist studies and research and he has published more than ten articles and books. His participation in International conferences has enabled him to share his research studies with other nations.

Ph.D. ( Reader) M.Phil. (Criminology).
M.A. ( Hitotsubashi University –Japan)
B.A. (Special) in Sociology and Anthropology.
Diploma and Higher Diploma in English Language, Certificate of Russian Language- A.C. Pushkin Institute-Moscow, Japanese Language Certificates- Hitotsubashi University-Japan.

Buddhist Projects/Experiences :
Organization of Buddhist religious programs, Research studies on Buddhist Dhamma Schools, Buddhist Organizations, Meditation programs, Therawada Buddhism in Sri Lanka and Myanmar, Participations in international Buddhist conferences and UN Vesak Day Academic Conferences and Presentation of Papers.

Work Experiences :
As a lecturer in the University of Sri Jayewardenepura for 25 years.
As a social researcher for 25 years
As a project consultant in State departments and private sector companies for 20 years
As a visiting lecturer in the institutes such as National Police Academy, Police Training Collage, Air force Academy, University of Moratuwa, Open University of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Foundation, National Institute of Social Development and Examiner of Sri Lanka Institute of development Administration.

Present Roles :
Work as a senior lecturer at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
Conduct research studies in the fields of crime and social problems, Buddhist religious activities of Temples,
Work as a visiting lecturer of the University of Moratuwa and Open University of Sri Lanka
Work as a Sociologist/ consultant in Northern Expressway developmwnt project and two Industrial Development projects in Hambantota District in Sri Lanka
